Police Inspector arrested for allegedly robbing multiple mobile money vendors in Kumasi

Police Inspector Arrested for Allegedly Robbing Multiple Mobile Money Vendors A police inspector has been arrested for allegedly robbing at least eight mobile money vendors across Kumasi and surrounding areas, in a case that has drawn sharp criticism from residents and civil society groups.

Inspector Bright Appiah Danquah, reportedly stationed at Abuakwa, is accused of carrying out the robberies at gunpoint alongside accomplices—one other police officer and two civilians. All four have been remanded into custody.

In one particularly striking incident, the inspector allegedly forgot his phone on a victim’s counter after robbing her. He then proceeded to the Adiebeba Police Station ahead of the victim and reported that his phone had been stolen, requesting that officers track it. The victim had also gone to the same station to report the robbery.

According to a report by Crime Check TV, the latest victim, Victoria Arkoh, said Inspector Bright robbed her of GH₵38,600 at gunpoint. She described the traumatic ordeal as causing her to urinate on herself, which soaked her one-year-old baby.

When she filed a complaint at the Kumasi Central Police Station, authorities informed her that more than eight mobile money vendors had lodged similar complaints against the inspector.

The case has sparked outrage online, with many questioning how a serving police officer could allegedly terrorize street workers while on government payroll.

Investigations are ongoing.
