US approves $373.6m JDAM-ER sale to Ukraine

The U.S. State Department has approved a potential Foreign Military Sale to Ukraine of 1,532 Joint Direct Attack Munition Extended Range (JDAM-ER) tail kits, along with related equipment and support, in a deal valued at an estimated $373.6 million.

The package includes 1,200 KMU-572 and 322 KMU-556 JDAM-ER kits, which convert unguided bombs into GPS-guided precision munitions. Once released from high altitude, the extended glide range of the JDAM-ER reaches approximately 72 kilometers (45 miles).

Also included in the notification are FMU-139 fuze systems, support equipment, spare parts, software, technical documentation, transportation support, and technical and logistics services from both the U.S. government and contractors.

The principal contractor for the sale is the Boeing Company.

The announcement, made public by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, is a standard Foreign Military Sales notification. Actual funding, delivery timelines, and final implementation remain subject to further governmental and congressional processes.
