Vincent Kompany will be forced to watch Bayern Munich’s Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain from a private box on Tuesday night after UEFA suspended the head coach for accumulating yellow cards.
The Belgian received a booking during Bayern’s previous European outing against Real Madrid, triggering an automatic one-match touchline ban under UEFA disciplinary rules.
According to UEFA regulations, Kompany must leave the team immediately upon arriving at the stadium, is prohibited from entering the dressing room, and may not communicate with his coaching staff via phone or any other device during the match. He will be accompanied in a private box by a UEFA delegate, who will ensure compliance.
Assistant coach Aaron Danks will assume touchline duties in Kompany’s absence.
However, German tabloid BILD has raised the possibility that Bayern could attempt to circumvent the禁令. The newspaper suggests a member of the club’s staff could sit near Kompany and secretly relay tactical instructions to the dressing room via mobile phone.
UEFA has not commented on the likelihood of such a scenario, and any proven violation could result in additional sanctions against the club or coach.
Kick-off at the Allianz Arena is scheduled for 21:00 CET.
