Dave Bishop, the founder of Bishop Boxing Promotions, has officially announced his candidacy for First Vice President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA). The declaration came on April 30, 2026, with elections set for June 2.
Bishop, a seasoned promoter, is running under the slogan “Elevating Ghana’s Boxing: Experience, Dedication, Leadership.” His campaign centers on translating promotional know-how into stronger governance and global reach for the sport.
Central to his platform is the creation of structured youth academies and mentorship schemes aimed at unearthing talent from schools and local communities. Bishop also proposes partnering with educational institutions to frame boxing as a viable career path.
On infrastructure, he has pledged to drive a nationwide programme to modernise community gyms and training centres, while equipping under-resourced clubs with quality gear. At the competitive level, Bishop promises a regular calendar of regional and national events to give fighters consistent exposure, alongside efforts to attract sponsors and increase prize purses.
Athlete welfare features prominently in his pitch. Bishop advocates for medical care, mental-health support, financial literacy training, and post-career planning for boxers. He also calls for transparent and accountable GBA administration to rebuild stakeholder trust.
“Ghanaian boxing has immense potential,” Bishop said. “With hands-on experience in promotion, a commitment to long-term athlete development, and principled leadership, I will work to open new pathways for fighters and strengthen the system that supports them.”
Bishop urged athletes, trainers, promoters, officials, and fans to engage with his campaign and help uplift the sport ahead of the June vote.
