The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has arrested Maxwell Kofi Jumah, the former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited, over allegations of financial irregularities during his tenure at the state-owned firm.
The arrest follows an ongoing investigation into financial management concerns and other alleged misconduct connected to Jumah’s leadership of the distillery company. Details of the specific allegations remain undisclosed, but sources indicate EOCO is reviewing documents and transactions from the period he served as head of the enterprise.
Authorities had previously visited Jumah’s residence in Kumasi as part of evidence-gathering efforts, according to earlier reports.
Jumah, a well-known businessman and former public official, has not yet been formally charged, and it remains unclear whether he has been granted bail. EOCO has not released further details on the status of the investigation.
The case has intensified public discourse on accountability and transparency in Ghana’s state-owned enterprises. Legal observers stress that all allegations remain unproven until tested in court, and that Jumah is entitled to due process under the law.
EOCO, Ghana’s lead agency for investigating serious financial and organised crime, has handled several high-profile corruption and fraud cases in recent years. Further developments are expected as the investigation continues.
