At least one person has been confirmed dead and several others injured following a violent confrontation between two Konkomba groups in Ghana’s Oti Region.
The clash, which erupted on Wednesday, has left residents in fear and prompted an emergency security deployment to the affected community.
According to eyewitness reports, tensions that had been simmering between the groups escalated into violence following a disagreement within the community. The situation quickly spiralled out of control, leading to casualties.
One person died on the spot, while multiple injured victims are currently receiving treatment at nearby health facilities. Their conditions remain unclear.
Security agencies responded swiftly, deploying personnel to the area to restore calm and prevent further escalation. A heavy security presence remains in place.
Authorities have launched an investigation to identify those responsible for the violence and determine the exact circumstances that triggered the deadly clash.
The Oti Region has witnessed similar communal tensions in the past, with intermittent conflicts occasionally requiring security intervention. Residents and community leaders are now calling on traditional authorities to step in and broker lasting peace.
Police have assured the public that efforts are ongoing to stabilise the situation and that measures will be taken to avoid a recurrence of the violence.
