The National Sports Authority (NSA) engaged more than fifteen diplomatic missions in Ghana on Tuesday to coordinate pre-World Cup events ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scheduled for June.
The meeting, held on April 28, brought together embassies of World Cup-bound nations including the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, the United Kingdom, Senegal, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Officials from the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, the Ghana Tourism Authority, and Tribe Festival also attended.
Discussions focused on pre-tournament activations to be hosted across selected NSA venues in all 16 regions of Ghana. According to the Authority, the events aim to give diplomatic missions an opportunity to engage and educate Ghanaian citizens, the media, sports federations, and fans planning to travel to the World Cup.
Speaking to reporters, Fernando Valenzuela, Deputy High Commissioner to Mexico, described a planned cultural fair hosted by the NSA as a centerpiece of the activations.
“We will have different countries showcasing their flags, along with music and entertainment,” Valenzuela said. “There will be more than 20 national booths, featuring different types of food from various countries. Basically, the idea is to bring everything together for football fans to explore.”
He noted that beyond the three host nations—the United States, Canada, and Mexico—all participating countries are eager to promote their brands to the Ghanaian public.
At the conclusion of the meeting, representatives from each embassy received customized fans’ diaries and Black Stars jerseys.
