Queenmother raises alarm over collapsed bridge, insecurity, poor sanitation in Atwima Behenase

The Queenmother of Atwima Behenase, Oheneyere Abena Komaa Dipah, has issued an urgent call for government intervention following the collapse of a critical bridge linking her community to Boko and Twedie.

Speaking during a Traditional Council meeting, the Queenmother described the bridge collapse as a major disruption to transportation and daily economic activities in the area. She noted that traders, in particular, are struggling to transport goods as movement has become increasingly difficult.

“We are in constant discomfort and uncertainty,” she said, pointing to the deteriorating road network compounding the community’s challenges.

Security Concerns Mount

The Queenmother also raised alarm over the complete absence of streetlights in Behenase, which she said has plunged the community into darkness and created opportunities for criminal activity.

Citing a recent burglary incident where a household reportedly lost all its belongings, she stated: “People now live in fear because of the darkness, and criminals are taking advantage of the situation.”

Health Risks from Poor Sanitation

Beyond infrastructure and security issues, Oheneyere Dipah drew attention to unsanitary conditions in the community, urging the municipal assembly to provide refuse bins to curb indiscriminate waste disposal.

She warned that the current sanitation situation poses a potential health risk if left unaddressed.

Call to Action

The Queenmother appealed to the Atwima Kwanwoma Municipal Assembly and the Ministry of Roads and Highways to urgently intervene.

Residents continue to call on authorities to take immediate action, expressing hope that necessary interventions will be undertaken to restore safety, mobility, and proper sanitation to their community.
