The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon John Jinapor, has directed the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) to step aside with immediate effect, pending investigations into a fire incident at the Akosombo power control centre.
The directive forms part of initial actions following the blaze, which affected operations at the country’s key power transmission hub. No casualties have been reported, but the incident has raised concerns about safety and operational protocols.
In a related development, a major shake-up has been announced in the leadership of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Ashanti Region. The minister has not yet disclosed the details of the changes, but sources indicate they are aimed at improving service delivery and addressing technical and managerial challenges in the region.
Hon Jinapor is scheduled to address the media tomorrow at 2pm in a major briefing on recent developments in electricity distribution. He is expected to provide further clarity on the GRIDCo investigation, the ECG leadership shake-up, and broader steps being taken to stabilise power supply and enhance sector governance.
All affected officials are expected to cooperate fully with the investigative processes.
