MTN Ghana sweeps three Ookla speed test awards at Mobile World Congress 2026

MTN Ghana has earned major international recognition at the Mobile World Congress 2026, securing three prestigious Ookla Speedtest Awards for network excellence in Ghana and West Africa.

The telecommunications giant was named the fastest mobile network in Ghana, as well as the best fixed broadband provider in both Ghana and the wider West African sub-region.

The awards are based on millions of real-time user tests conducted via Speedtest by Ookla, measuring key indicators such as speed, network stability, and overall customer experience. MTN Ghana outperformed competitors across several West African countries, including Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, and Mauritania.

Executive Reactions

Reacting to the achievement, MTN Ghana CEO Stephen Blewett attributed the success to sustained investment in infrastructure and innovation. He noted that the company remains committed to strengthening its network capabilities to meet growing digital demands, adding that reliable connectivity plays a critical role in driving socio-economic transformation.

He further disclosed that MTN Ghana is expanding its network footprint through the rollout of additional sites to enhance service quality and coverage nationwide.

Chief Technology Officer Reuben Opata also commended technical teams for their dedication, stressing that the company’s focus remains on delivering consistent, high-quality services to customers across the country.

Industry Context

Industry observers regard the Speedtest Awards as a credible benchmark within the telecommunications sector, as rankings are based entirely on independent consumer data rather than self-reported metrics.

The recognition underscores the impact of ongoing upgrades to MTN Ghana’s network systems, including improvements in transmission capacity, infrastructure resilience, and engineering optimisation.

Future Plans

Further expansion plans are already underway. During a recent visit to Ghana, MTN Group CEO Ralph Mupita announced a substantial investment package aimed at strengthening the company’s operational capacity over the next three years, with a focus on enhancing service delivery and supporting the country’s digital economy.

With these latest honours, MTN Ghana continues to consolidate its position as a leading force in the nation’s telecommunications industry, advancing digital inclusion and connectivity across the region.
