Black Stars forward Antoine Semenyo has voiced concern over teammate Mohammed Kudus’s fitness, confirming that the Tottenham midfielder has suffered a relapse in his recovery from a quad injury—just weeks before Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
Speaking on the AllOutFootball Podcast, Semenyo described the situation as deeply frustrating, especially with Kudus’s availability for the tournament now in serious doubt.
“He relapsed during his comeback from his quad injury,” Semenyo said. “It’s frustrating because he is a pivotal factor in the team for sure – we just have to see how it goes.”
Kudus had already been sidelined for three months with the original injury. The latest setback threatens to rule him out entirely for Ghana’s Group L matches against England, Croatia, and Panama.
The 25-year-old has endured a difficult first season at Tottenham, managing three goals and six assists in 26 appearances across all competitions. His absence would be a major blow to Ghana’s hopes of advancing from a challenging group.
Semenyo, who also discussed his own preference for playing on the wing during the interview, remains hopeful that Kudus could still recover in time. Ghana open their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto. The tournament kicks off on June 11.
