Minister orders immediate eviction notice for Tema’s Kaiser Flats over safety risks

The Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has directed the Tema Development Corporation (TDC) to issue an immediate eviction notice to all residents of the Kaiser Flats in Tema Community 4, citing serious structural and safety risks.

The directive follows earlier plans to relocate the affected residents to Kpone ahead of the scheduled demolition and redevelopment of the aging flats. However, the Minister has now accelerated the eviction process, emphasizing that the deteriorating condition of the buildings poses an imminent danger to occupants.

In a statement, Mr. Adjei stressed the urgency of the move, pointing to the recent building collapse in Accra New Town as a stark warning. He noted that such tragedies must be avoided at all costs, and preventive action is necessary to protect lives.

“We cannot wait for a disaster to happen before we act,” the Minister said. “The safety of residents is our top priority.”

The TDC has been directed to ensure that the eviction notice is served without delay. Further details on the relocation timeline and support for displaced residents are expected to be announced in the coming days.
