Mayweather faces legal showdown as promoter claims breach of contract over three-fight-plan

Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s ambitious 2026 schedule has descended into chaos after a promoter for Manny Pacquiao alleged the unbeaten fighter violated their agreement by announcing a separate exhibition bout.

The former pound-for-pound king had outlined three high-profile appearances this year: a bizarre exhibition with Mike Tyson in the Democratic Republic of Congo, a rematch with Manny Pacquiao at Las Vegas’ Sphere in September, and a June 27 clash against 18-time kickboxing champion Mike Zambidis.

But the Pacquiao rematch—the biggest commercial draw of the three—is now in serious doubt.

Jas Mathur, CEO of Manny Pacquiao Promotions, told FightHype that Mayweather has committed “multiple breaches” of their contract, including a dispute over the fight’s status.

“One of the breaches in there is the Greece fight that he is posting, his exhibition against the Greek fighter,” Mathur said. “He can’t do that fight, it’s a direct breach of this contract.”

The disagreement extends beyond the Zambidis booking. Mayweather has publicly characterised the Pacquiao rematch as an exhibition, while Pacquiao insists the signed contracts stipulate a professional bout.

With legal action looming, Mayweather now faces a stark choice: proceed with the Zambidis exhibition and risk losing the far more lucrative Pacquiao rematch, or abandon the Greek fighter to salvage the September payday.

Neither Mayweather nor representatives for the Tyson exhibition have provided official comment on the contractual disputes. The Congo event, originally scheduled for late April, has yet to receive any formal confirmation or venue details.

The three-fight plan that once promised a busy 2026 for the 49-year-old now appears unlikely to unfold as advertised, with further legal wrangling expected in the coming weeks.
