A newborn baby girl was discovered dead and abandoned at the local cemetery in the Kronkromase community, Atasomanso Electoral Area, early Sunday morning, sending shockwaves through the area.
Residents reported finding the infant’s lifeless body under distressing circumstances, sparking outrage, grief, and renewed calls for stronger child protection measures.
The Assembly Member for Atasomanso Electoral Area, Hon. Abdul Samed, popularly known as Opele, condemned the act as “inhumane and deeply troubling.”
“This incident poses a serious threat to the safety and dignity of children in our community,” he said in an interview. He urged residents to remain vigilant and embrace collective responsibility in safeguarding children’s welfare.
Hon. Abdul Samed confirmed that the matter has been formally reported to the Kronkromase Police Station. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the abandonment and death of the infant. He appealed to anyone with relevant information to cooperate with law enforcement.
Community members expressed disbelief and sorrow, describing the situation as unacceptable. Many called on parents and guardians facing difficulties to seek help from family, community leaders, religious institutions, or social welfare agencies instead of resorting to actions that endanger innocent lives.
The incident has reignited urgent discussions on child welfare, the need for accessible support systems for struggling parents, and stronger community engagement to protect the most vulnerable.
Police have promised further updates as investigations continue.
