Police raid in Ejura leaves notorious highway robber dead, seven suspects arrested

A police operation targeting armed robbers along the Mampong-Ejura Highway turned deadly on March 30, 2026, when a suspected highway robber was fatally shot after attacking an officer.

Ibrahim Iddrisu, 43, better known as “Bule,” died from gunshot wounds sustained during the raid, according to the Ashanti North Regional Police Command. He had been wanted in connection with multiple robberies along the highway.

The operation, carried out by the regional police command in collaboration with the NOD/Surveillance Unit from Accra, also led to the arrest of seven other suspects linked to a March 26 robbery at Aframso Bridge.

Confrontation and Death

Police reports indicate that Iddrisu attacked an officer with a cutlass and attempted to seize a service weapon, prompting the shooting. He suffered gunshot wounds to his left leg and arm and was initially taken to Mampong Government Hospital before being transferred to Jamasi Pope John Paul Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Seven Suspects in Custody

The arrested individuals—Amidu Sajo, 42; Ibrahim Sule, 36; Karim Hadu, 40; Malik Jibrilla, 38; Yusifa Asakoko, 23; Umaru Issifu, 20; and Damani Yamba, 36—are accused of robbing passengers aboard a minibus traveling from Kumasi to Atebubu. The victims had their cash and mobile phones stolen during the incident.

Authorities seized multiple exhibits during the raid, including:

· Two live AK-47 rounds
· Three cutlasses

Police Statement

Assistant Commissioner of Police Felix Apedo, the regional commander, said the operation remains active.

“The operation is ongoing to apprehend other suspects and recover additional weapons,” Apedo stated. He urged the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement in efforts to combat highway robbery and protect road users.

Community Reaction

Residents of Ejura and surrounding areas have welcomed the police command’s swift action, with many calling for sustained efforts to curb the growing threat of highway robbery in the region.
