Police arrest man over viral video threatening High Court Judge

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 49-year-old man in connection with a viral video in which he allegedly threatened a Justice of the High Court, Her Ladyship Justice Patricia Quansah.

The suspect, John Kwabena Owusu Ansah, was apprehended at Antoakrom in the Ashanti Region on March 27, 2026, following what the Police described as intelligence-led operations.

In a statement released on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, the Police said the arrest was carried out by officers from the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team after a period of monitoring and investigations.

According to the statement, the viral video contained threats, abusive language, and allegations accusing Justice Quansah of criminal conduct. The Police noted that the content raised serious concerns regarding the safety of the judge and the image of the Judiciary.

The case is being processed under the Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038), alongside the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), and the Electronic Transactions Act, 2008 (Act 772). Authorities stated that these laws provide for sanctions against unlawful online content, including fines, revocation of licences, and criminal prosecution.

Mr. Ansah is currently in custody assisting with investigations and is expected to be put before court soon.
