NDC will not abandon campaign promises, says Asiedu Nketiah

The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has assured Ghanaians that the party remains committed to fulfilling the promises it made during the 2024 election campaign.

Speaking on the first day of his “Thank You Tour” in the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, Mr Asiedu Nketiah acknowledged that the government inherited significant challenges but insisted that the administration of President John Dramani Mahama was already taking steps to stabilize the country and improve living conditions.

The tour, which began at Nsuta Kwamang Beposo, is intended not only to express gratitude to voters but also to begin a process of accountability. Mr Asiedu Nketiah stated that the party would regularly assess its performance against its pledges.

“We are committed to fulfilling the promises we made to the people and traditional authorities in this region,” he said. He pointed to ongoing development initiatives, including projects in education and water supply, as early signs of progress, noting that these achievements were being recognized even by some opposition supporters.

Ashanti Region No Longer an ‘Exclusive Stronghold’

Mr Asiedu Nketiah also declared that the Ashanti Region could no longer be considered the exclusive stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), citing the NDC’s improved performance in the 2024 general election.

He explained that the party had taken a deliberate decision ahead of the election to intensify its presence across all districts in the region. This strategy, he said, paid off, resulting in the NDC expanding its reach and securing nearly 35 per cent of the total votes in the region.

“The 2024 election results demonstrate a growing acceptance of the NDC within Asanteman,” Mr Asiedu Nketiah said, adding that the party’s renewed engagement with the region would be sustained and likening the relationship with Ashanti voters to a long-term commitment requiring continuous attention.

Chief Calls for Infrastructure Focus

The Chief of Nsuta, Nana Asamoah Gyamfi Sekyere, who received the NDC delegation, noted that early signs of governance under President Mahama had inspired confidence among residents.

He highlighted visible improvements in infrastructure, particularly ongoing work on the Nsuta–Kwamang road. He observed that the presence of road construction equipment and machinery on the site had brought relief to residents, describing it as a clear indication that the government was responding to long-standing concerns.

Nana Asamoah Gyamfi Sekyere urged the government to prioritize the rehabilitation of key roads in the area, reminding the NDC of its campaign commitments and expressing confidence that those promises would be fulfilled.
