Former President Donald Trump is facing widespread condemnation following his reaction to the death of former FBI Director Robert Swan Mueller III, who passed away earlier this week.
On his Truth Social platform, Mr. Trump described the death of the man who led the special counsel investigation into his 2016 presidential campaign as “good.”
“Robert Mualler [sic] just died. Good, I’m glad he’s dead. He can no longer hurt innocent people! President Donald J. Trump,” the former president wrote in a post that quickly went viral.
The remarks have been characterized by critics as “vile and disgusting,” sparking a firestorm of reactions across social media platforms.
Mr. Trump’s comments reference the special counsel inquiry, officially known as the Mueller investigation, which examined Russian interference in the 2016 election and potential obstruction of justice by the former president. While the investigation did not establish a criminal conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Russia, it detailed numerous instances of potential obstruction of justice and led to several indictments of Trump associates.
The former president has long been a vocal critic of Mueller, frequently referring to the investigation as a “witch hunt” during his tenure in the White House and afterwards.
As of press time, there has been no official comment from the White House or the Biden administration regarding the former president’s post.
