Three people have been confirmed dead, with one person in critical condition, following a a gory road accident at Apire-Heman in the Atwima Kwanwoma Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The crash occurred in the early hours of Friday, March 20, 2026, around 5:00 a.m., when a tipper truck carrying sand lost control and rammed into a saloon car parked along the road.
Three vehicles were involved in the accident: a private car with registration number DV A5244, a tipper truck with registration number GC 3786-21, and a Toyota Vitz with registration number WT 1081-21.
Eyewitnesses reported that some victims remained trapped in the wreckage for several hours before personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service arrived to rescue them.
“Two people who were trapped in the car were crying out for help, but there was little we could do. Sadly, they died,” an eyewitness recounted.
A commercial driver, Francis Twumasi, attributed the incident to brake failure on the part of the tipper truck.
“The truck lost its brakes, which led to this deadly accident. The situation was very terrible,” he said.
He expressed concern over the increasing danger on the stretch, blaming reckless driving by some tipper truck operators.
“Driving on this road has become very risky. Some of these tipper truck drivers do not exercise patience,” he added.
The injured victim was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased have been conveyed to the mortuary.
