The Akosombo Divisional Command has arrested three individuals for possessing 105 bundles of counterfeit US dollar notes, police have confirmed.
Ebenezer Narh-Tsu, 20, George Attor, 48, and Bishop Robert Olertey, 54, were taken into custody following an intelligence-led operation by the Odumasi-Krobo District Police at their hideout in Larsi, near Odumasi-Krobo in the Eastern Region.
According to a statement from the Police Public Affairs Unit signed by Chief Inspector Bridget Opoku, the fake currency—comprising $100 notes—was discovered packed inside a student’s trunk.
During the arrest on March 11, 2026, one of the suspects, Bishop Robert Olertey, allegedly attempted to bribe the arresting officers with GH¢20,000. The officers reportedly rejected the offer and proceeded with the arrest before transferring the suspects to the Akosombo Divisional CID for investigation.
On March 13, suspect Ebenezer Narh-Tsu appeared before the Odumasi-Krobo Circuit Court on a notice of detention motion. He was granted bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 with two sureties and has been ordered to report to police every Monday for two weeks to assist with investigations.
The remaining two suspects have been granted Police Enquiry bail as investigations continue.
The Eastern Regional Police Command has urged the public to remain vigilant against counterfeit currencies to avoid financial losses.
