Residents of Bekwai Amoafo in the Ashanti Region have been thrown into a state of fear and shock following the discovery of a woman who allegedly took her own life under mysterious circumstances on a cocoa farm.
The deceased, believed to be in her early 30s and unknown to the community, was found hanging from a cocoa tree on Tuesday, sending waves of panic through the farming settlement.
Assemblyman for the area, Hon. Dickson, described the incident as unprecedented in the community’s history.
“This is the first time such a tragedy has occurred here, and it has brought fear and panic to our people,” he stated. “We have never recorded anything like this before, and residents are deeply unsettled.”
According to the assemblyman, the woman is not a resident of Bekwai Amoafo, leaving community members puzzled about her presence in the area and the circumstances leading to her death.
“We are working closely with the authorities to trace her relatives and also understand what may have led to this unfortunate incident,” Hon. Dickson added.
The body has been deposited at the morgue pending identification and autopsy, while police have launched investigations into the matter.
Speaking to newsmen on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, the assemblyman sought to reassure frightened residents while appealing for calm.
“We want to assure everyone that we will cooperate fully with the police to uncover the truth, while also supporting anyone who may be affected by this incident,” he assured.
Some concerned residents have called for increased security presence and community awareness programmes to help prevent similar incidents and address the psychological impact on the community.
Police investigations are ongoing to establish the identity of the deceased and the exact circumstances surrounding her death.
