The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has officially finalized the selection of the first batch of 2,000 recruits, who are set to begin training shortly, with special provisions made for victims of last year’s El-Wak Stadium stampede.
In a statement released on Tuesday and signed by the Acting Director-General of Public Relations, Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, the GAF directed all successful applicants to report to their respective regional selection centres on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. to receive their official appointment letters and prospectus.
This intake represents the first phase of a broader recruitment drive that will be executed in four separate batches.
Special Considerations for Stampede Victims
In a move reflecting the military’s commitment to social responsibility, the GAF confirmed that the first batch includes special consideration for individuals affected by the tragic incident at the El-Wak Stadium.
According to the statement, a total of 18 individuals who sustained injuries during the stampede have been cleared for recruitment. Furthermore, the GAF has enlisted five individuals who were sponsored by the families of victims who lost their lives in the disaster.
Recognition for Sikaman Rescue Efforts
The Armed Forces also hinted at future recognition for civilians who displayed bravery during a separate emergency. The statement indicated that individuals from Sikaman in the Ashanti Region, who provided critical assistance during a helicopter crash rescue operation last year, will be given consideration for inclusion in the second batch of recruits.
Opportunities for Medically Disqualified Applicants
In a bid to ensure fairness and transparency, the GAF encouraged applicants who were disqualified due to treatable medical conditions not to be discouraged. The military assured such persons that once they seek and complete the necessary treatment, they will be invited for a free medical review at a later date.
The GAF extended its gratitude to all 16 regional administrations for their support in decentralizing the recruitment process, aligning with government policy to make opportunities more accessible across the country.
Calm Urged Among Remaining Applicants
Acknowledging the high interest in the exercise, the GAF urged applicants who were not selected in this batch to remain calm. The statement explained that a pool of candidates who obtained high scores on the aptitude test has been retained and will be considered for subsequent recruitment batches.
