A former Member of the Council of State, Henry Osei Akoto, has launched a scathing attack on the National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, over what he describes as disrespectful comments directed at party members.
Mr. Osei Akoto, a seasoned politician, did not mince words in his criticism, suggesting that such an approach to party communication is a disqualifying trait for any national leader with presidential aspirations.
“If this is how you address members of the NDC, then it is best you forget about any presidential ambitions you may have,” Mr. Osei Akoto stated emphatically. He expressed deep displeasure at the manner in which the NDC Chairman addressed a section of the party’s rank and file, arguing that it undermines the respect and unity required to lead both a political party and the nation.
According to him, the language and tone used by a leader are critical in fostering cohesion, especially within a party seeking to project itself as a viable alternative for governance. He warned that such conduct could alienate the grassroots supporters who form the backbone of the party’s electoral machinery.
“Leadership is about inspiration and respect. When you disparage the very people whose sweat and toil keep the party running, you are not only weakening the internal structures but also sending a worrying signal to the Ghanaian electorate about the kind of leadership they should expect,” Osei Akoto added.
His comments add to a growing list of reactions regarding the internal dynamics of the NDC. The party has recently been in the spotlight over internal disagreements and debates concerning the status of some members and the direction of its communication strategy.
Mr. Osei Akoto’s rebuke serves as a call for more decorous and unifying leadership within the country’s political landscape as parties begin to position themselves for future electoral contests.
The NDC is yet to issue an official response to the criticisms leveled by the former Council of State member.
