Richmond Botwey, General Manager for Engineering & Services at Tesla Electrical & Auto Ltd, has issued a rallying cry to the nation, asserting that the engineering profession is the cornerstone upon which Ghana’s future prosperity must be built.
Speaking on Thursday, 5th March 2026, Botwey emphasized the critical role engineers play in driving national development, technological advancement, and economic resilience. He described the profession as the engine room for innovation and sustainable growth, capable of solving the country’s most pressing challenges.
“The future of Ghana is inextricably linked to the ingenuity and problem-solving capabilities of our engineers,” Botwey stated. “They are the ones who design our infrastructure, develop our industries, and create the technological solutions needed to compete on a global stage.”
His comments come at a time when Ghana is seeking to accelerate its industrialisation agenda and navigate a complex global economic landscape. Botwey argued that empowering engineers and investing in engineering education is not merely an option, but an imperative.
To fully harness this potential, he called for a concerted effort from both the public and private sectors. Key areas for action include significant investment in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education from the basic level, as well as creating more apprenticeship and practical training opportunities for young graduates.
“We must bridge the gap between the classroom and the industry,” he explained. “Engineers need the resources and the enabling environment to turn their ideas into tangible outcomes that benefit society. When we empower our engineers, we empower Ghana.”
His message serves as a powerful reminder that the nation’s ability to innovate, build resilient infrastructure, and create high-value jobs hinges on developing and retaining top engineering talent. As Ghana looks to the future, the spotlight on the engineering profession has never been brighter.
