Two suspected robbers shot after attempting to scale judge’s wall in Kumasi

A dramatic confrontation in Kumasi has left two suspected robbers nursing gunshot wounds after they allegedly attempted to break into the residence of a Court of Appeal judge, the Ghana Police Service has confirmed.

The incident occurred late Monday night at approximately 11:30 p.m., when two young men reportedly scaled the fence wall of the judge’s premises armed with cutlasses and a pair of scissors.

Suspects intercepted on premises

Police have identified the suspects as Patrick Alor, 23, and Akwasi Gyamfi, 21. According to a police statement issued on March 4, the pair had entered the compound and were attempting to forcibly open the judge’s private vehicle when their actions were detected.

A police bodyguard stationed at the residence intercepted the suspects before they could carry out the alleged robbery.

Officer fires in self-defence

According to police, the situation escalated when the suspects resisted arrest and allegedly attempted to disarm the officer.

“Acting in self-defence and in line with operational procedures, the officer discharged his firearm, resulting in gunshot wounds to the left and right legs of the suspects,” the police statement read.

The injured men were subsequently subdued and taken into custody.

Suspects receiving treatment

Both suspects were rushed to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, where they are currently receiving medical attention under police guard.

Police have indicated that investigations into the attempted robbery are ongoing.

Police commend officer’s vigilance

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has praised the officer’s professionalism and swift response, noting that his intervention prevented what could have become a serious security breach at the residence of a senior judicial officer.

The service has assured the public of its continued commitment to safeguarding members of the judiciary and all citizens, while urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
