A drill rapper facing deportation to Ghana has been captured in France
Daniel Boakye, 21, known professionally as Dsavv, was detained Monday evening in La Bouëxière, Brittany, following a joint operation involving the Metropolitan Police, the National Crime Agency, and French law enforcement, authorities confirmed Tuesday.
Boakye had been serving a sentence at HMP Feltham for robbery and was scheduled for removal to Ghana upon completion of his custodial term. However, his deportation was dramatically delayed when he escaped police supervision twice within a single week last month.
The fugitive initially fled from West Middlesex University Hospital, where he was receiving medical treatment under guard. Although recaptured the following day, Boakye exploited a subsequent hospital visit on February 15, escaping from Lewisham Hospital in south-east London during a further treatment appointment.
Investigators believe Boakye was smuggled out of the United Kingdom concealed in a lorry shortly after his second escape, triggering an urgent cross-border manhunt.
In the days following his disappearance, Boakye appeared to mock pursuing authorities in a circulating online video. The clip showed a performer rapping in front of a news report covering his escape, declaring: “I just broke out of jail like Modie”—a reference to a character from the Netflix series Top Boy.
A Scotland Yard spokesman confirmed that arrangements are now underway to return Boakye to British custody.
“Arrangements are now underway to return him to custody in the UK,” the spokesman said.
Boakye’s case has drawn significant attention both for the audacity of his escapes and the immigration implications, as he had been processed for deportation to Ghana at the conclusion of his sentence. Authorities have not indicated when removal proceedings will resume, but his apprehension clears the path for the UK to proceed with both his return to prison and the pending deportation process.
