The Member of Parliament for Techiman North and Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, in collaboration with the District Chief Executive, Hon. Adom Kwabena Johnson, has officially handed over 1,000 pieces of school furniture to the Techiman North Education Directorate.
The ceremony, held at the forecourt of the Techiman North District Assembly in the Bono East Region, was attended by education officials, headteachers, assembly members, and stakeholders in the education sector.
Receiving the items on behalf of the directorate, the District Education Director, Ahmed Nasir Ibrahim, described the gesture as timely, noting that the lack of adequate furniture had long hindered effective teaching and learning in the area.
“Today is a very good day for the Techiman North Education Directorate. We have been challenged with inadequate chairs and desks to support teaching and learning, but with this intervention, that challenge will be reduced,” he said.
Mr. Ibrahim revealed that about 20 schools are set to benefit from the distribution, with each receiving at least 50 pieces of furniture.
In an interview, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare explained that the donation fulfills a key campaign promise made to her constituents.
“During the campaign, I realized that the furniture deficit was a major challenge facing the Education Directorate, and I promised to help address it when the NDC assumed office. That promise is what we are fulfilling today,” she stated.
She also assured the people of Techiman North that additional furniture is already being procured to further support learners across the district. She appealed to beneficiary schools to maintain the items properly to ensure their durability.
“My humble appeal to the beneficiary schools and learners is to take very good care of the furniture so that it can serve them for a long time,” she urged.
On behalf of the headteachers, Mark Yaw Adusi, Headteacher of Jama Timponim D/A School, expressed gratitude to the MP, the DCE, and the assembly for the support.
“These chairs and desks will go a long way in improving teaching and learning activities in the district,” he said.
The initiative is expected to enhance classroom conditions, boost learner concentration, and improve the quality of education in public basic schools across the Techiman North District.
