Residents of Takyikrom and surrounding areas in the Techiman North District can now heave a sigh of relief as the Member of Parliament for the area and Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has commissioned a new mechanized borehole for the community.
The project, which was officially handed over on Monday, is set to end the perennial struggle for potable water that has plagued the community for years. The Minister was accompanied by the Techiman North District Chief Executive, Hon. Adom Kwabena Johnson, for the ceremony.
At the commissioning, Hon. Ofosu-Adjare emphasized that access to clean water is a fundamental right and a cornerstone of public health. She stated that the borehole is a direct response to a critical need voiced by the constituents and a fulfillment of her commitment to uplift deprived communities.
“Water is life, and as a woman, I know and understand the struggles women go through just to get water to keep their homes running,” Hon. Ofosu-Adjare remarked. “So when the good people of Takyikrom told me they needed clean, safe, and drinkable water, I made it a priority to secure it for them.”
She highlighted that the project would not only reduce the prevalence of waterborne diseases but also alleviate the daily burden on women and children, who previously had to travel long distances in search of water. This, she noted, will contribute to improved sanitation and overall well-being in the area.
The Minister revealed that the Takyikrom project is just one piece of a larger water infrastructure agenda for the district. She announced plans to construct at least ten additional mechanized boreholes across Techiman North within the year. This follows the completion of eight others that were started last year and are awaiting official handover to their respective communities.
“We are here to serve, and under the leadership of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, Techiman North will continue to see tangible development,” Hon. Ofosu-Adjare assured the gathering. “This government is committed to infrastructure that directly impacts lives.”
She also stressed the importance of community ownership and maintenance to ensure the facility’s longevity. She urged the residents to form a competent committee to manage the borehole, ensuring it serves the community sustainably for years to come.
The residents of Takyikrom were overflowing with gratitude. A community spokesperson described the intervention as a transformative solution to their most pressing challenge.
“We are very grateful to Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare and the NDC government for constructing the mechanized borehole for us,” the representative said. “Access to clean and drinkable water has been our major challenge, but with the intervention of our able Member of Parliament, this will now be a thing of the past.”
The event was attended by local assembly members, party faithful, and a cross-section of community members who all hailed the project as timely and life-changing. The new mechanized borehole is expected to serve as a vital hub for clean water, significantly enhancing the quality of life and public health outcomes in Takyikrom and its environs.
