The Children’s Support Fund established for the dependents of the victims of last year’s tragic Ghana Air Force helicopter crash has surpassed GH¢10 million in contributions, according to an official update from the fund’s coordinators.
In a statement released on Saturday, Dr. Valerie Sawyerr, Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs and Coordinator of the Fund, announced that total donations have now reached GH¢10,150,495.00 and US$20,000.00.
The figure reflects donations accumulated between October 17, 2025, and February 7, 2026, marking a significant milestone in the public fundraising effort.
Support for Grieving Families
The fund was launched on August 15, 2025, by President John Dramani Mahama during the state funeral for the eight victims of the crash. Its primary mission is to provide long-term support for the education, healthcare, and general welfare of the children left behind.
The helicopter went down in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region on August 6, claiming the lives of senior government officials, including the Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and the Minister for Environment, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, along with six other passengers and crew members.
Steady Growth in Donations
The fund has seen a steady increase in public and corporate generosity since its inception. Starting with an initial GH¢2.3 million in August 2025, it grew to over GH¢6.5 million by September and had reached GH¢8.6 million by mid-October.
The latest surge in contributions has been bolstered by donations from major corporate entities, including Ghana Reinsurance, Kosmos Energy Ghana, and Vitol Ghana Services Limited. Dr. Sawyerr also acknowledged contributions from the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of the Interior, and staff of the Office of the President.

In her statement, Dr. Sawyerr reiterated an appeal to the public to continue supporting the cause to ensure the long-term security of the victims’ children.
