T.I. Ahmadiyya SHS marks 55 years with urgent plea for ICT and infrastructure upgrade

As T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School (TI AMASS) celebrates its 55th anniversary, the Headmaster has issued a passionate appeal to the government, old students, and corporate bodies for urgent investment to transform the institution into a modern centre of excellence.

Launching the milestone celebration in Salaga over the weekend, Mr. Issahaku Awalu Jahanfo described the anniversary as “a call to action,” warning that infrastructure deficits threaten the schoolโ€™s academic vision.

According to Mr. Jahanfo, the school is grappling with critical challenges, including a shortage of classroom blocks, outdated science and ICT laboratories, overcrowded dormitories, and a lack of staff accommodation. He also noted the absence of official vehicles, which hampers the schoolโ€™s administrative and transport needs.

“These gaps threaten our vision of becoming a disciplined, technologically driven, and academically competitive institution,” Mr. Jahanfo stated. He stressed that bold investments in infrastructure and technology are non-negotiable if the school is to safeguard its future.

Established in 1971 by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission at the request of the Kpembe Traditional Area, TI AMASS began with just 44 male students. Today, it boasts a population of 1,624 students supported by 81 teachers. Despite its infrastructure constraints, the school has recorded steady academic improvement, averaging 51 per cent quality passes in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) between 2022 and 2024.

Under the theme โ€œ55 Years of Moral and Academic Excellence: The New Vision, The New Brand,โ€ the anniversary planning committee has outlined key projects, including the rehabilitation of the Agric Science pavilion and the conversion of the old kitchen into a modern Visual Arts Department.

MP Decries ‘Unfair’ Power Instability

The Member of Parliament for Salaga South, Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, used the occasion to highlight the persistent electricity instability plaguing the Salaga township. She described the situation as a major impediment to academic work, noting that students are unfairly disadvantaged compared to their peers in cities with reliable power.

“For years, our students have studied under unstable electricity conditions, yet they sit for the same examinations as their counterparts in Achimota and Mfantsipim who enjoy uninterrupted power. This is not fair,” she said.

Hajia Zuwera revealed that she is working with the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition to secure a lasting solution, revealing that contractual processes are underway for the construction of a new electrical substation to stabilise power in the area.

On infrastructure, the MP disclosed that her office is facilitating the rehabilitation of the schoolโ€™s ICT and science laboratories. She also confirmed that the contractor for the schoolโ€™s dining hall project has returned to site following engagements with the Ministry of Education. Plans are also advanced for the construction of a new housemistressโ€™s bungalow and an additional dormitory block to ease congestion.

The 55th anniversary celebration serves as a rallying point for old students and stakeholders to contribute to the schoolโ€™s development agenda, ensuring that TI AMASS remains a beacon of moral and academic excellence in the Savannah Region.
