The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has moved to correct what it describes as inaccurate media reports suggesting it plans to deploy staff to work permanently at Ghanaian embassies overseas.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Authority explained that it has instead entered into a collaborative arrangement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to make selected services more accessible to Ghanaians living abroad.
Under the initiative, which begins with a pilot phase, Ghanaian embassies in the United States, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom will facilitate applications for International Driver’s Permits and Driver’s Licence Renewals.
Embassy staff will be trained to verify applicant documentation before forwarding them to Ghana for processing. Once processed, the documents will be returned to the embassies for pickup by applicants.
The DVLA emphasised that its own officers will not be stationed abroad as part of this arrangement.
“The Authority practices an open-door policy and encourages the media and individuals who require clarity to approach the Corporate Affairs Department for details to avoid misleading reportage,” the statement added.
