The Central Regional Police Command has arrested six students of Aggrey Memorial Senior High School in connection with a brutal assault on a final-year student of Adisadel College following an inter-schools sports festival.
According to a police statement released Monday, the suspects were handed over to the Kotokuraba Police Station by school authorities on the evening of February 20, after reports that they had attacked Rexford Owusu Ansari at Pedu Junction earlier that day.
The incident occurred after the conclusion of an inter-colleges sports festival at the Cape Coast Stadium. Preliminary investigations reveal that the victim was leaving the venue with two friends when the suspects confronted them, allegedly inquiring whether they were students of Adisadel College before launching the attack.
While the victim’s companions managed to escape, Owusu Ansari was overpowered, beaten, and robbed of his iPhone 17 Pro Max, his footwear, and approximately GH¢1,400 in cash.
The victim sustained serious injuries, including a fractured bone near his right eye, leaving him unable to open it. Medical personnel at the stadium clinic provided initial treatment before referring him to the Cape Coast Regional Hospital, where he was admitted and later discharged on February 22. Doctors have expressed concerns about potential severe damage to his eyeball.
The Central Regional Police Command has condemned the violence in strong terms and assured the public that due process will be followed.
“The suspects, being juveniles, will be handled in accordance with the law and will face the full rigours of the law if found culpable,” the police statement read.
Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the attacks.
