Ahafo:Police arrest three in major weapons haul, foil alleged robbery plot

Three suspects are in police custody following the discovery of an AK-47 assault rifle, pistols, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition in separate operations across the Ahafo Region.

Goaso, Ahafo Region – Police have arrested three young men in connection with the unlawful possession of firearms and an alleged plot to commit robbery, the Ahafo Regional Police Commander has disclosed.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) James Annor, addressing a press conference on Tuesday, confirmed that the suspects—Johnson Mawutor, 26; Kelvin Ofori, 22; and Mawuli Dogba—were apprehended in a series of coordinated operations on Saturday, February 22, 2026.

Late-Night Patrol Leads to Breakthrough

The breakthrough came during a routine patrol along the Ayomso-Goaso road at approximately 11:30 p.m. DCOP Annor explained that a team from the Regional Taskforce observed two individuals, later identified as Mawutor and Ofori, riding an unregistered motorbike towards Ayomso.

According to the police commander, the suspects attempted to evade arrest by switching off the motorbike’s headlights upon noticing the patrol team. Officers gave chase and successfully apprehended the duo.

A search of the suspects’ bag revealed an AK-47 assault rifle bearing serial number 68098152, loaded with 29 rounds of ammunition.

Residence Search Yields Additional Arsenal

Following the initial arrests, police extended their investigations to Abrodanho, a suburb of Goaso, where a search was conducted at Mawutor’s residence. The operation led to the arrest of a third suspect, Mawuli Dogba.

Items recovered from the residence included:

· A Beretta Bruni pistol (serial number MOD.92)
· An NM157-1941 pistol
· 30 rounds of 9mm ammunition
· 50 rounds of AK-47 ammunition
· Four Motorola handsets
· A Contixo F35 drone
· A machete and a bayonet knife

Weapons Sourced from Techiman

Preliminary investigations suggest that Mawutor, Dogba, and a fourth suspect—identified as Mohammed-Adinan Ussif, who remains at large—allegedly obtained the weapons on the same day of their arrest from Techiman in the Bono East Region.

DCOP Annor assured residents of the police command’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and security in the area. He confirmed that efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspect and any other individuals connected to the case.

The Regional Commander urged members of the public to volunteer credible information to support ongoing crime-fighting efforts in the region.
