Man jailed nine months for theft at Makola Market

An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced 31-year-old Sampson Kwabena Ebo to nine months imprisonment for stealing items from a shop at Makola Market.

The unemployed convict pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced accordingly by the court.

Ebo was found guilty of stealing a Nokia HD Android phone valued at GHC3,000, a lady’s handbag worth GHC550, and clothes valued at GHC350 from a shop belonging to Madam Theresa Ocansey.

According to prosecution, operatives from the Office of Special Operations under the Inspector General of Police identified the suspect through CCTV footage obtained from the complainant’s shop. The footage captured Ebo entering the store and making away with the items.

Police traced and arrested the suspect on February 10, 2026, at his residence in Konkomba. During interrogation, Ebo admitted to being the person captured on the CCTV footage.

When questioned about the stolen items, Ebo informed police that he had sold the mobile phone to an individual identified as Baba for GHS500. He claimed the remaining items had been “displaced.”

The prosecution further revealed that investigations suggest Ebo operated with accomplices who typically strike during busy periods to steal multiple items.

Police efforts to apprehend Baba, who allegedly purchased the stolen phone, have so far proven unsuccessful as he remains at large. Authorities have assured the public that measures are underway to arrest the fugitive.
