In a significant move to bolster the nation’s agricultural capacity, the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Hon. Dr. Eric Opoku, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GIDA VE TARIM University in Turkey. The agreement, formalized on behalf of the Government and His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, paves the way for a new scholarship program aimed at transforming agricultural education for Ghanaian students.
The collaboration with GIDA VE TARIM University, a prominent Turkish institution renowned for its expertise in agricultural sciences, will provide Ghanaian students with invaluable opportunities to pursue both academic degrees and professional training. The initiative is designed to strengthen human capacity and develop specialized skills critical to the growth of Ghana’s agricultural sector.
Under the terms of the MoU, the university will offer scholarships for a variety of agriculture-related programs. This strategic partnership underscores the government’s firm commitment to investing in the human resource base of the country’s agro-industrial sector. By facilitating advanced training in highly skilled agricultural practices, the Ministry aims to build robust local capacity that will serve as a major catalyst for the sector’s expansion.
“This collaboration is a testament to our dedication to resetting and rebuilding agriculture in Ghana,” said Hon. Dr. Eric Opoku. “By equipping our students with world-class knowledge and skills, we are investing directly in the future of our agro-industry and empowering the next generation to lead Ghana’s economic transformation.”
The initiative is expected to provide a significant boon to the Ghanaian economy by fostering innovation, improving productivity, and ensuring that the nation’s agricultural practices meet international standards. It aligns with the government’s broader vision of youth empowerment, agri-tech innovation, and the overarching goal of securing a food-sufficient future for the nation.
