The family of the Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD) CEO, Sammy Gyamfi, is in mourning following the tragic death of his father-in-law, who succumbed to injuries sustained in an armed robbery attack.
Mr. Karikari, whose first name has not been officially released, passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2026. He had been receiving medical treatment after being shot by armed robbers at his residence in Kumasi five days earlier, on Friday, February 13, 2026.
According to family sources, the incident occurred when the perpetrators invaded Mr. Karikari’s home. He was critically wounded by gunfire during the encounter. Despite immediate medical attention and efforts to save his life, he could not recover from the severity of his injuries.
The late Mr. Karikari was the father of Irene Amankwaa Karikari, who married Mr. Gyamfi in a high-profile ceremony in December 2022. The wedding was a significant event attended by prominent figures from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), including President John Dramani Mahama.
As of the time of this report, the Ghana Police Service has not issued an official statement regarding the progress of investigations into the robbery and fatal shooting. However, the incident has drawn an outpouring of grief and condolences from friends, political colleagues, and members of the public, who have taken to social media to comfort the Gyamfi and Karikari families during this difficult time.
Details regarding funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in due course.
