Ghanaian traders caught in Burkina Faso terror attack

The Ministry of the Interior has confirmed that a group of Ghanaian tomato traders were caught up in a terrorist attack in northern Burkina Faso on Saturday, February 14, 2026.

In an official statement released on Sunday, the Minister for the Interior, Mr. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, described the information received from authorities in Burkina Faso as “disturbing.”

According to the Minister, the incident occurred in the town of Titao, where a military camp was the target of an assault by suspected Islamist militants. The attack caused significant damage to the military installation, and a truck transporting the Ghanaian traders was caught in the violence.

“The Government of Ghana has received disturbing information from Burkina Faso of a truck carrying tomato traders from Ghana which was caught in a terrorist attack in Titao, Burkina Faso on Saturday, February 14, 2026,” the statement read.

The Ministry stated that Ghana’s diplomatic mission in Burkina Faso has been activated and is working closely with local authorities. The embassy is coordinating efforts to visit the scene, gather detailed information, and assist in identifying any Ghanaian citizens who may have been affected by the attack.

Titao, located in the volatile northern region of Burkina Faso, has been under a blockade by jihadist groups since 2019 and has experienced frequent and deadly attacks.

The Ministry assured the public that further information would be communicated as soon as more details become available through the ongoing collaborative efforts with Burkinabe officials.
