Abdul Karim Zito has officially stepped down from his position as head coach of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club with immediate effect.
The club confirmed the resignation in a brief statement today, announcing that management has accepted his decision. The Porcupine Warriors currently sit fifth on the Ghana Premier League table.
“Management has accepted the resignation, expressed its appreciation to the coach for his services and wished him the best for the future,” the statement read. It added that the club’s new technical direction will be communicated in due course.
Zito’s departure comes just days before one of the season’s most anticipated fixtures: a clash against arch-rivals Accra Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, February 15.
Fans and observers have taken to social media with mixed reactions following the announcement. While some praised the club for taking decisive action, others called for a more long-term approach, including the potential hiring of an experienced foreign coach to build a sustainable project.
The club has not yet announced an interim replacement as it prepares for Sunday’s crucial encounter.
