Mr. Sharaf Mahama, Chief Executive Officer of Legacy Rise, has pledged his organization’s support for the upcoming One Humanity International Beach Soccer Cup, scheduled to take place in Ghana this May.
The announcement was made at the official launch of the tournament held at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, February 6, where Mr. Mahama was a special guest. The event is organized under the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) One Humanity Campaign in partnership with Beach Soccer Worldwide, aiming to promote inclusion, peace, and cultural exchange through sport.
Mr. Mahama, who has been actively involved in Ghana’s sports sector, particularly in boxing and football, commended the National Sports Authority (NSA) for its efforts in developing beach soccer in the country. “There is a need to support and expand this exciting sport,” he stated, highlighting its potential for growth and community engagement.
The Director-General of the NSA, Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, emphasized the strategic importance of the tournament. “Beach soccer has the potential to activate Ghana’s coastline and position our nation for major international sporting events,” he said.
The tournament, scheduled for May 8–10, 2026, at Laboma Beach in La, Accra, will feature national teams from Ghana (Black Sharks), Nigeria, England, and Germany competing in a round-robin format. Alongside the matches, the event will include youth clinics, cultural activities, and community outreach programs.
Lead Organizer Banasco Nuhu Seidu stressed the event’s broader mission. “This is about legacy, opportunity, and uniting our communities,” he said, pointing to Ghana’s renowned hospitality as a key asset.
The launch ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including the Chief of Mission for the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Fatou Diallo Ndiaye, underscoring the event’s humanitarian focus. Cultural performances by the Ghana Supporters Union added to the vibrant atmosphere of unity and celebration.
Mr. Yaw Gyamfi Kusi Awere, Chairman of the GFA Beach Soccer Committee, noted that the competition would provide crucial international exposure for local talent, aiding the development of the sport domestically.
The One Humanity International Beach Soccer Cup is positioned not just as a sporting competition, but as a significant platform for social cohesion and elevating Ghana’s profile on the global sports stage.
