Police have arrested a man for allegedly making social media comments with the potential to destabilize the peace in Bawku and its surrounding communities.
The suspect, identified as Raphael Azare Kariyama, was taken into custody following an intelligence-led operation designed to clamp down on the spread of content that incites violence.
In a press release dated January 31, 2026, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) confirmed the arrest, stating the suspect is in police custody and will be arraigned before court. Police further indicated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other accomplices connected to the case.
The CID has issued a stern warning to the public against making, publishing, or sharing incendiary statements. The department emphasized that such acts are a direct threat to national security and undermine social cohesion.
The arrest underscores ongoing security concerns in the Bawku area and highlights law enforcement’s vigilance against online speech that could fuel conflict.
