IGP promotes entire all-female Royal Police Unit after palace honour

The Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yuhonu, has announced the promotion of all members of the Police Royal Ladies, a special all-female unit named in honour of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The IGP made the announcement on Sunday at the first Akwasidae celebration of the year at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, where the unit had just mounted a guard of honour for the King.

He stated that the promotions were in recognition of the unit’s distinguished service and dedication, as well as their historic role in two recent ceremonial events.

The Police Royal Ladies first paraded for Otumfuo Osei Tutu II during his unprecedented visit to the National Police Headquarters on January 6, 2026. They repeated the honour at the Manhyia Palace on Sunday—marking the first time such a parade has been held at the seat of the Asante Kingdom.

“I wish to announce to Otumfuo that these ladies have been working very hard. They have distinguished themselves… and for this, being the first of its kind to honour Otumfuo at the National Police headquarters and also being the first of its kind to visit the Manhyia Palace, the police administration decided to promote them to the next rank,” IGP Yuhonu said.

The IGP explained that the unit’s activities were the Service’s way of expressing profound appreciation for the Asantehene’s visit to the Police Headquarters.

All members of the unit will be elevated to their next respective ranks within the Ghana Police Service with immediate effect.
