Police in the Ho West District have arrested a 36-year-old taxi driver for possessing suspected narcotics after he attempted to bribe officers with GH¢5,000 to secure his release.
The suspect, Innocent Kpeglo, was intercepted early Thursday while driving from Dzolokpuita toward Ho. Acting on a tip-off, a police team mobilized and spotted the vehicle, an Opel taxi with registration number CR 675-12.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rockson Gyasi, District Commander for Ho West, Kpeglo pulled over and opened the bonnet upon seeing the officers, pretending his vehicle had developed a fault.
When approached, Kpeglo immediately confessed to transporting the substances to someone in Aflao and offered the police GH¢5,000 to drop the matter. The officers rejected the bribe and proceeded to search the vehicle.
A thorough inspection at the Anyirawase Police Station revealed 37 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana concealed beneath the back seat.
The taxi has been impounded, and Kpeglo is in custody at the Volta Regional Police Headquarters in Ho. He is being processed for court on charges of possessing narcotic substances.
DSP Gyasi commended his team for their professionalism and urged the public to continue supporting the police with credible information to combat crime.
