GAMADA forges partnership with Ghana Boxing Federation to revitalize boxing

The Ga Mashie Development Agency (GAMADA) has announced a landmark partnership with the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) aimed at talent discovery, development, and the overall rebranding of amateur boxing in Ghana collaboration was formalized during a strategic meeting between GAMADA’s Executive Director, Dr. Alfred Dodoo, his board, and the leadership of the GBF. The meeting also included Ms. Christiana Choi—sister of Ghana’s Ambassador to South Korea—who pledged her support for Ghana boxing, alongside a Korean investor identified as Mr. Lee.

Dr. Dodoo emphasized boxing’s deep roots in Ga Mashie heritage, stating that GAMADA, which is mandated by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly to develop local talent, will mobilize partners including the Chinese community and diaspora members to bolster support for the sport.

GBF President, Dauda Fuseni, described the engagement as “unprecedented, historic and special,” marking the start of a renewed agenda focused on transparency, regional integration, and effective branding. He acknowledged that amateur boxing has historically suffered from “poor packaging” and a lack of corporate sponsorship, a narrative the federation is determined to change.

“The public must know what we do, giving opportunities to everyone, boxers and coaches,” Fuseni stated. He advised boxers to avoid complacency and prepare rigorously for upcoming competitions.

The President also outlined the immediate calendar, noting that the preliminary rounds for the 2026 Amateur Boxing Championship begin on Friday, January 30, with the finals scheduled for late February. The championship is sponsored by multiple organizations, including Twellium Industries, Freight Consult, Base Pharmaceuticals, and Guinness Ghana, with media support from Omashi Media, Joy Sports, and Boxing Ghana, among others.

Fuseni assured that the GBF is prioritizing boxers’ health, medical care, and safety protocols to ensure a successful event.

International stakeholders at the meeting expressed strong commitment. Ms. Christiana Choi stated her desire to “take Ghana Boxing to a higher level,” while Mr. Lee highlighted the “massive talent in Ga Mashie” and expressed interest in a cultural exchange that would polish and export Ghanaian boxing talent for global recognition and revenue.

The GBF delegation included Vice President Nii Gonti Adjor I, Second Vice President Solomon Otoo Lartey, Executive Member Sarah Lotus Asare, Treasurer Mustapha Nettey, Secretary Emilia Coach, and Dr. Ofori Asare.

This partnership signals a concerted effort to restore boxing’s prestige in Ghana, leveraging local heritage, corporate sponsorship, and international investment for sustainable growth.
