NSA Governing Board EmbThe Governing Board of the National Sports Authority (NSA) has begun a pivotal three-day retreat in the Volta Region, marking a critical step in its mission to overhaul the Authority’s operations and public image.
Sworn in just over a month ago by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, the Board was directly charged with pursuing bold reforms and delivering performance-driven leadership across Ghana’s sports sector. This retreat is designed as the launchpad for that mandate, focusing on deep, uninterrupted strategic planning often unattainable in regular meetings.
The gathering aims to develop actionable solutions for the NSA’s day-to-day execution, with a core objective of transforming its social and public standing. The Board seeks to reposition the NSA as a respected, results-oriented institution aligned with the demands of the global sports industry.
Chaired by the Board Chairman, Dr. Fred Awaah, the retreat includes key figures such as Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, Director-General of the NSA, and his deputies, Gideon Hammond and Veronica Commey. The diverse assembly ensures comprehensive input, featuring representatives from major stakeholder ministries and institutions.
Notable attendees include Samuel Duku Sarfo (Ministry of Youth and Sports), Nana Adwoa Owusu-Amoh (Ministry of Finance), Is-Haku Al-Hassan (Ministry of Education), Col. Richard Kofi Akoto (Security Services Sports Association), and Dr. Luguterah Austin Wontepaga (Tertiary Institutions). Distinguished sports personalities and development experts, including Hajia Sulemana Zenabu, Alhaji Iddris Muntawakilu Ahmed, and Prof. Emmanuel Osei Sarpong, are also contributing to the deliberations.
This concentrated session is expected to chart a concrete course for the Board to steer the NSA through a period of essential reforms. The ultimate goals are to restore public confidence, improve governance structures, and deliver tangible outcomes for Ghana’s entire sports ecosystem
