Ground Up Chale lawyer disputes Kwesi Arthur’s claim of earning nothing from label

A lawyer for Ground Up Chale, the former management company of rapper Kwesi Arthur, has rejected claims by the artiste that he earned nothing from his music during his time with the label.

Speaking during a Joy FM X Spaces conversation hosted by Kwame Dadzie on Thursday, January 22, 2026, counsel for Ground Up Chale, Jonathan K. Amable, described the allegations as false and misleading.

To support his position, Mr Amable read portions of email correspondence between the parties, which he said showed that Kwesi Arthur had received substantial royalty payments while signed to the company.

“In that email, Glen details payments that had been made to Kwesi which he never disputed. It states that ‘to date, you have benefited from £91,370 in royalty disbursements,’” the lawyer said.

Mr Amable further alleged that Kwesi Arthur received an additional $118,712 from music distribution company Platoon for his Son of Jacob album without remitting Ground Up Chale’s contractual share.

He also dismissed claims that the company was preventing the artiste from using his own images, clarifying that Kwesi Arthur was only restricted from using specific footage produced by Ground Up Chale during the period of their working relationship.

“Everything that was created within that period was owned by Ground Up,” he stated.

According to the lawyer, Kwesi Arthur signed an initial four-year contract with Ground Up Chale in 2017, which was later renewed for an additional two years.

Kwesi Arthur had earlier accused music executive Glen Boateng and members of the Ground Up Chale team of intimidation, financial extortion and attempts to block his independent music releases in a strongly worded social media post that sparked widespread reaction in the entertainment industry.

In the post, the award-winning artiste alleged that he was being asked to pay $150,000 to use images of himself for a current project and warned that his safety could be at risk amid the ongoing dispute.

“If anything happens to me, Glen Boateng and all team members of Ground Up Chale are responsible and should be held responsible,” he wrote.

He further claimed that despite not working with or having any affiliation with the company since the release of Son of Jacob, he had not earned any income from music released during his time with the label.

“I have not made a dime from any of my music within the period I worked with them for years now and receive constant threats and manipulation,” Kwesi Arthur alleged, warning fans that any takedown of his independent project should be blamed on his former manager.

He said he had remained silent for a long time despite the toll the dispute had taken on his mental health, but chose to speak publicly for the safety of himself and his family.

Kwesi Arthur is yet to respond to the claims made by Ground Up Chale through its legal counsel.
