NPP initiates processes to expel Prof Frimpong-Boateng over comments

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has commenced formal procedures to expel former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, following comments he made in a television interview in which he described the party as “fake” and questioned its internal democratic practices.

In a statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP said it had taken due note of remarks made by Prof Frimpong-Boateng on Channel One TV on Monday, January 12, 2026, during which he stated that he no longer considered himself a member of the party.

The statement said the former minister also made what the party termed disparaging comments about the NPP and alleged that the party’s 2023 presidential primary was rigged in favour of former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s flagbearer for the 2024 general elections.

The NPP said it unequivocally rejected Prof Frimpong-Boateng’s characterisation of the party and strongly denied what it described as baseless and unsubstantiated allegations regarding the conduct of the presidential primary.

According to the party, the 2023 contest was free, fair, transparent, and credible, and its outcome was accepted by all aspirants who took part.

The statement further described Prof Frimpong-Boateng’s conduct as highly reprehensible and contrary to the values, unity, and integrity of the party, arguing that his public comments undermined internal cohesion and discipline.

“Consequently, the Party has invoked the relevant provisions of its Constitution to commence the necessary processes to expel him from the Party, strictly in accordance with due process,” the statement said.
