The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has reinstated its recognition of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG) following corrective actions to address concerns that led to the temporary withdrawal of the Institute’s status.
In a letter dated January 8, 2026, signed by Jerry Sarfo, Director of Corporate Affairs, on behalf of the Director-General, GTEC confirmed that it was satisfied with the steps taken by ICAG and its Chief Executive Officer, Eric Oduro Osae, to remedy identified breaches, including the correction of previously published misleading information.
The Commission noted that the restoration follows an earlier decision to withdraw ICAG’s recognition over quality assurance concerns linked to the use of an unearned doctoral title by Mr. Oduro Osae. This withdrawal had rendered the Institute’s certificates unrecognised pending corrective action.
According to GTEC, ICAG formally communicated the actions taken to address the issues in a response dated January 8, 2026. After reviewing the submission, the Commission concluded that the breaches had been adequately resolved.
“Consequently, the Commission is satisfied that the identified breaches have been adequately remedied,” the letter stated. “Accordingly, with immediate effect, the recognition of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG) by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) is hereby restored.”
GTEC further indicated that all professional certificates issued by ICAG from the date of restoration are now fully recognised by the Commission.
The Commission also congratulated Mr. Eric Oduro Osae on his appointment as Chief Executive Officer of ICAG and wished him success in his new role.
