Mahama warns criminals targeting police will face ruthless action

President John Mahama has issued a stern warning to anyone targeting or killing personnel of the Ghana Police Service and other law enforcement agencies, stating that such individuals will face ruthless consequences.

Speaking at the National Police Headquarters on Thursday, January 8, while handing over 100 pickup vehicles to boost operations across the country, President Mahama expressed deep concern over recent attacks on security personnel.

He emphasized that criminals who harm police officers or other security personnel will have no place to hide and promised decisive action against them.

“There will be no hiding place for criminal elements. I said this afternoon, especially the criminal elements who seek to either injure or kill our police officers and other security officers, we shall come after you and deal with you very ruthlessly when we catch up with you,” he stated.

President Mahama recalled a recent memorial service held in honor of police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty over the past year, noting that many were shot by armed robbers or other criminals.

“Recently we attended a memorial service to honor police officers who had lost their lives in the line of duty in the last year, and several of them had been shot either by armed robbers or other criminal elements,” he said.

He stressed that the state would respond firmly to any attack on law enforcement officers.

“I want to serve notice that the police deal very ruthlessly with anybody who harms, injures, or kills a police officer. We will hunt them down and neutralize them, so this is serving notice to those elements. If you shoot at a police officer, we’ll come after you,” the president added.

President Mahama also reaffirmed his government’s commitment to strengthening the Ghana Police Service through continued investment, highlighting ongoing efforts to improve the Service’s operational capacity.
