As the Black Stars battle on the world stage, one prominent figure has been conspicuously absent from the conversation.
Kudus Mohammed, Ghana’s star midfielder and the face of the national team’s marketing campaign, has not posted a single word about the 2026 World Cup since the tournament kicked off, sparking growing frustration among supporters.
While teammates and former players have flooded social media with messages of encouragement, analysis, and celebration, the West Ham United playmaker’s accounts remain notably silent on all matters Ghana.
Sources close to the player point to an injury that kept him out of the World Cup squad. But fans are questioning whether that explains his complete radio silence.
“He has not wished the team well. He has not cheered his teammates on. He has not shared anything Ghana,” one supporter told local media. “Not even a simple ‘Go Boys’ on match days. This is supposed to be our starboy?”
The 24-year-old, who has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since March, has instead focused his social media content exclusively on his recovery—posting gym updates, rehabilitation videos, and motivational quotes about his personal journey back to fitness.
Notably, Kudus was active on social media during Ghana’s two World Cup matches so far, posting stories and sharing content—just nothing related to the Black Stars.
The contrast with other injured Ghanaian players has not gone unnoticed. Injured defenders Alexander Djiku and Mohammed Salisu have both posted messages cheering the team.
Even former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan, who has been absent from the national setup for years, has posted multiple times rallying support for the team.
Fans have taken to various platforms to voice their disappointment, with some questioning the player’s commitment to the national cause.
“Everybody is mute because he’s the favorite,” another fan commented. “But we see. We are watching.”
Kudus, who was Ghana’s top scorer at the 2022 World Cup with two goals, has been the subject of intense media scrutiny over his international availability in recent months. He missed Ghana’s crucial World Cup qualifying playoff matches due to a separate injury concern, though he returned to club football shortly after.
His representatives have not commented on the matter.
With Ghana currently sitting third in Group C and needing a positive result against Brazil to advance, fans are now looking elsewhere for inspiration—and waiting to see if their star will finally break his silence.
We Dey Watch.
